Spooks Opening SequenceMedia Representation:

How are people and places represented in this opening sequence.

Ways in which the opening scene appeals to a weekday mainstream audience is because the typical mainstream are those that live in the same area as the location of were it is set. The setting is set out to be quiet, Suburban Street which may be located in a small town in London. The first thing that we are made to see is an innocent blond hair girl playing along the road side with her skipping rope this helps represents the mainstream audience as they are the kind of people that may have a child at that age as the target age group would be 15-35 were are then taken away from the girl and into a house were we see a typical couple in the morning and getting ready to start their day. They are a young may be newlywed couple and are shown too been very much in love with one another. But as we often see things do not always stay so happy and rosy. This leaves us the audience wondering what will happen next.

From the begging we are able to see that is the BBC that is the institution behind the drama. As the BBC is a respectable company when it comes to making and producing Dramas there for the people that have been watching BBC dramas for a long time now would be expecting something good and worth their time and not disappointing.

The codes and conventions which are shown in the sequence are that it builds up tension and suspense. This is because the girl is firstly introduced, then the institution is introduced. There is no sound in the sequence of voices in the first few secongs. this is when suspense and tension is build up by the viewer of the sequence. However this is not something unusual, many sequences are shown like this to fulfil what they are there to do, this clip is there to build up suspense and make the view think and be eager to see what is going to happen in the clip next.

Ways in which people and place is represented is by the people shown at the beginning the young couple ways this is represented is by what people expect from a young couple which is that they are very much in love and that they are playful this is shown with in the first few seconds we see what we expect from them which is the happy playful couple young people are represented to be but then it gets all serious and as it is a drama we expect for there to be some sort of villain to tear them apart.

Bullet Boy - Trailer

Narrative/Characters: The narrative is quite typical for the genre that it is, this is clearly shown throughout the trailer which because of males that are involved in crime and violence. The trailer clearly shows that the narrative involves young males getting involved in crime by the use of guns and other forms of violence which results to them being in trouble with the police which is shown at the begging of the trailer. However, throughout the trailer there seems to be a multiple narrative. This is shown as you see the crime side of the film by the males being involved with guns and then there is also another narrative which is based on the main character in a relationship with a female. The narrative also indicates to the audience the target audience of the film as most of the characters shown are males and the female which is shown is used as an sexual object which is common in gangster films.

Props:Throughout the trailer, there are many props used such as guns, torches, handcuffs etc. This connotes that the film will be based around crime as there are many scenes in the trailer which show the males in the characters being arrested or put at gun point. This allows the audience to be familiar with the genre and also have an idea about the narrative of the film.

Setting:
The setting of the film is flats which are shown at the beginning of the film. The advantage of showing the setting at the beginning of the film is that it allows the audience to be familiar with where the main setting of the film will be. The setting of the flats connotes violence and crime which is clearly seen throughout the trailer. Also, the setting seems to be a deprived area which connotes that this film will involve males getting in to trouble by the use of crime.

How well is the course organised 2

The media course is organised very well, as teachers simplify the workload and the structure in which the work has to be set, teachers also offer undivided attention for those who need assistance, e.g. People who have no previous experience on media studies. Such as I.

How interesting is the content that is covered? 1

The content that is covered within the media course is very interesting as it is something new in which I have never studied before. It is one of my current favourite subjects as I enjoy doing the work.

How useful are the handouts? 2

The handouts we receive are very useful because they break down what was covered in the lesson. They are also for us to keep, which is vital for us to revise from whilst taking notes to further our understanding of the topic.

Have the lessons been well-paced? 2

The lessons have been well placed to the extent that it is easy to know what we are doing in the lesson.

What is the standard of the teachers’ presentation/subject knowledge? 3The standard of the teaching in media is okay.

How well has the course met your expectations?

The course is different to what I expected, as I didn’t think it would be this much theory.

Have the extra-curricular events been useful? (e.g. Awards Eve.)Extra curricular clubs associated with media is useful as it gives us an understanding on how productions are produced and gives me ideas on what I might base my production on. E.g. a documentary or a film.s teachers simplify the workload and the structure in which the work has to be set, teachers also offer undivided attention for those who need assistance, e.g. People who have no previous experience on media studies. evaluation of media awards

A Rappers Ambition
I personally believe that this was for me one of the most enjoyable short films to watch. The reason being is because firstly they had put original shots in and you can see this as the night went on they were the only group to successfully do a short film of this genre. The most memorable being the glass breaking on the floor and then quickly rewinding back into the hand of the thrower this is because of the angel of the camera what perfect to view the good acting of the person acting the role and also to see the glass breaking. In addition to my god review they also won best overall production and deservedly so.

Saving faith
I believe that this production was one of the most original as it contained many every day life situations that teenagers of our time are faced with. This ensured success as the audience’s reaction was encouraging as they acknowledged that a new era had begun, where teenagers can understand and relate their lives to.

silent pain
This media production was also one of my favourites as they talked about serious issues people are faced with in today’s world such as rape. Not only did they take a serious approach to this they also went in more depth about the situation. Some of the advantage of showing this was to tell women consequences and what to do if you are in this kind of situation. Overall, this documentary has sure given women a new way of looking at things and how they are to react and act in this kind of situation if it was to happen to them or some one they know.
